Overview
1. General

  1. Please Follow the OrthoBullets Format
    • Over the years we have developed a standard format for our content. Because our content acts like a "flashcard", it is beneficial to stick the content so users and review them more efficiently. It also makes your expectations well defined and makes your job easier.
      • only use orthobullets blue to highlight important points
      • bolded blue is only used in the Treatment sections, as the next step in management answer on a prior test question.
  2. Please Include objective information from our trusted resources only.
    • the greatest risk orthobullets faces is that the quality of the content deteriorates over time. This is an orthopaedic test preparation site only, and therefore should only include "testable" information.  Our resources primarily include
      1. Miller Orthopaedic Review
      2. OKU 9
      3. First-Aid for the boards
      4. AAOS Comprehensive Review
      5. Prior OITE questions
      6. Prior Self Assessment Questions
      7. Tested concept from ABOS Step I
    • please do not add personal commentary because you think it is important. The job of this site is to aggregate content from proven review materials and combine it with an innovative learning platform.
  3. Respect Copyright Laws
    • Orthobullets is an innovative platform and there is no need to infringe on the copyright of other sources. Under copyright law, a publisher does not own the information (nobody owns that a Segond fx is associated with an ACL tear). This is why Miller resembles OKU which resembles Comprehensive Review. It is because they are all coming up with a different way to write the same material. Our goal is to write that "same" information in an orginal bullet format and integrate it with practice questions. What is illegal is directly copying/pasting from another resource or copying word-for-word from another source. We are all competent physicians who have been through plenty of schooling, and we are all capable of writing original content. Please write the content in your own words and your own format.

2. Update & Formatting Topic Content
Go to the topic you wish to update and select EDIT topic in the top right corner. This will bring up the master editor which has three main sections: 1) topic editor 2) Image/Video Upload 3) Question creation system. For this first part just use the first section to edit the topic. It is fairly self explanatory but there are several features you should be familiar with.
  • Go ahead and update topic by following these steps
    1. Read Miller and make sure that information is included.
    2. Read OKU 9 and make sure the information is included.
    3. Do prior OITE test questions (included in editor) and make sure the information is included.
    4. Do prior Self Assesment questions (included in editor) and make sure the information is included.
    5. Spell check the content
  • Push save topic button to save. Pushing View Topic Button without saving will show prior version without updating your changes and you will lose them.

3. Add Subcategory to topic  and make background gray
  1. Select Insert Row Tool in toolbar
  2. Place cursor in new row
  3. Right click Cell
  4. Right click Table Cell Properties
  5. Select Advanced in pop up box
  6. Type color code #CCCCCC in box for Background Color
  7. Click Update

4. Link Question Mark Icons to Questions
  • One unique feature of OrthoBullets.com is to be able to immediately link to a prior question on tested concepts.
  • After you make sure the tested principles from previous questions is included in the content, the place a question mark after it and link the question mark to the question. This way when you click on that question mark, that question pops up.
  • Step to do
    1. Copy and paste a question mark icon immediately after the tested concept. (To copy just right click on any question mark icon, select copy image, and then paste image)
    2. Highlight the question mark by rolling over it.
    3. Hit the link icon in the toolbar. An [Insert/edit link] box will pop up.
    4. Put # and the QID number of the question you want to link to into the Link URL box. The QID# can be found below the question.
    5. Type "question" as the Title
    6. Hit Save Topic

5. Upload images and add the images to the review topic
  1. Select image you wish to upload from your desktop.
  2. Name study type. Use format (MRI-Knee-Sag-T2)
  3. Write brief summary. Start with Shows. This will be the description that appears on the list of images which should be cut and pasted into the vertical portal. Therefore make it short.
  4. Write detailed descrition. This text will pop up when the image window pops up. It should have describe the image as the radiologist would in his summary section. In the end it can include some patient information if you have it. (e.g., The patient was a 32 year old male that fell down the stairs and presented with lower extremity weakness.)
  5. Give image source. e.g., John Smith's personal cases.
There are two types of images that can be uploaded
  • testable image camera icons and link go immediately after the bullet emphasizing it
  • additional images go in the vertical portal boxes on the right

6. Create Review Questions
  • We have created an innovative question creation system.
    • It allows you to create original questions based on prior tested concepts.
    • This allows us to generate original questions without deviating too far from the trend in tested principles.
    • This questions should be original. Do not just change the words of the prior questions.
    • For OITE questions the explanations have been written by residents and can be used.
    • For Self Assessment Test the discussion belong to the AAOS and must be recreated.
When writing the explanation for the question, the references should have been preferably used in the OITE or SAE question.   On occasion, a deputy editor may overide and add references to update the question to include universally accepted, current information. We need to avoid adding articles that we may individually think is important and stick to our inclusion criteria.

Our three liners for each reference included in the explanation need to follow the format below.
1. The authors did... (method)
2. The authors found... (results)
3. The authors recommend...(conclusion)

7. Upload Images for the Questions you create
    • 1. Click UPLOAD IMAGE
    • 2. Notice: you will see the OITE image icon for the OITE images that have already been uploaded.
    • 3. Hit Browse and select the image off your desktop (I find best way to find appropriate images is from my personal cases or by doing a Google Image Search. We can use images that you find on Google Image Search if they are appropriate for the question.)
    • 4. Describe Image type using OrthoBullets format (XR-Foot-Lat, MRI-Lumbar-Sag-T2)
    • 5. Describe briefly what the image shows. (shows lumbar stenosis). This will list after the image type on the right.
    • 6. For OBQ Question images leave Detailed Description blank. The reason is this description pops up under the image, and therefore would give away the question.
    • 7. List the source of the image (E.g., Personal Cases, Google query)
    • 8. Upload image
    • 9. Paste the image link into the image box below. Do this by right clicking the image icon and select "Copy Shortcut" (for Internet Explorer) or "Copy Link Address" (for Google Chrome). Then CTRL V (or right click Paste) into image box to paste. If you want to upload an illustration for your answer, do the same process. Under Image type write "illustration", and then paste link into Illustration box.
    • 10. Make comments and save. Always test the image after the question to make sure it is working properly. Rememeber, these questions immediately go up on the internet for all to see.
8. How to Link a Question to a Specific Topic
  •  When a question is not link to a topic it appears under the default of abductor digiti minimi. These are the steps to move a question to a specific topic.
    1. Click Qbank in top left
    2. Click EDIT of corresponding test
      1. OBQ07-241 is OITE 07, question number 241.
    3. Click question number from drop down box.
