Objective & Content

Our Objective
Orthobullets.com is a free orthopaedic education site designed to prepare orthopaedic surgeons for standardized exams, including the OITE and ABOS Part I. In addition, new features help the practicing orthopaedic surgeon communicate and consult with other orthopaedic surgeons. You can create colleague groups, share surgical cases, and create practice tests for yourself and residents. You have strict control over your privacy settings, and may remain completely anonymous or share your professional information with others..

Content Scope & Trusted Resources
Orthopaedic surgeons have access to a wide array of orthopaedic content. The goal of OrthoBullets.com is not to be a comprehensive source of information on orthopaedic conditions, nor is it meant to be a surgical techniques guide. The goal of OrthoBullets.com is to help young orthopaedic surgeons master the extensive basic knowledge that is required to perform well on orthopaedic standardized tests and practice as a generalist orthopaedic surgeon. To achieve this we have establish strict definitions on what content is included on OrthoBullets.com. As a general rule, if it is not testable, it is not on OrthoBullets.com. Our content only includes information from trusted orthopaedic review resources, prior OITE examinations, and board review courses. All sources are properly referenced.  The content is generated and quality checked through our OSPREY (read more) educational platform. The content is then integrated with an innovative learning technique, called VEQTR (read more) to create a unique educational tool. Our primary resources include:

  1. Review of Orthopaedics, 5th Edition, Mark D. Miller (editor), Saunders, an imprint of Elsevier, Philadelphia, Copyright 2008
  2. First Aid for the Orthopaedic Boards, Robert Laminzak, Mark Albritton, Trevor Pickering (Editors), McGraw Hill Medical, Copyright 2009
  3. Orthopaedic Knowledge Update 9, Jeffrey S Fischgrund (Editor). Published by American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Rosemont IL. Copyright 2008
  4. Surgical Exposures in Orthopaedics: Stanley Hoppenfeld, Piet deBoer. Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Philadelphia, Copyright 2009
  5. OITE Questions from 2004 to 2009, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Rosemont IL. Copyright 2004-2009
  6. Board Review Course Material (AAOS Chicago Course, Miller Colorado Course, Maine Orthopaedic Review Course)

A Flashcard-like System used to Augment Text-Based Resources

OrthoBullets.com is different than a text-based resource in that it follows a bullet format. It is meant to be used as a flashcard system, where topics are reviewed briefly multiple times as opposed to being read carefully on an infrequent basis. Therefore, Orthobullets.com should be used to augment, and not replace, text-based resources that give a more comprehensive knowledge of a topic.  We recommend Miller Review of Orthopaedics and the AAOS Orthopaedic Knowledge Update Series.
