Biography

Dr. Hauer joined the Carnegie Mellon University sports performance team as a sports medicine fellow with Dr. Rabuck in 2024. About Dr. Hauer: Tyler was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. Prior to beginning medical school, he completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at Lake Forest College in Illinois, where he also played NCAA hockey. He was then fortunate enough to return home for both medical school and orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Toronto. Guided by his sports background and through excellent mentorship he became driven to pursue a career as a sports surgeon. His clinical interests include all aspects of orthopaedic sports surgery with a focus on hip and knee preservation. Last year, he completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Toronto Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Program (UTOSM), and is currently completing a second sports medicine fellowship within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UPMC. After completion of his fellowship in Pittsburgh, he plans to return to Toronto to practice as a sports surgeon.
