Video Description

The Coleman block test is a way to evaluate the flexibility of the hindfoot and differentiate between:
1) a rigid hindfoot leading to hindfoot varus.
2) a flexible hindfoot with hindfoot varus caused by forefoot pronation and a plantar flexed first ray.

Method: Place a block under the lateral foot. This eliminates the contribution of the first ray. Therefore, if the hindfoot varus is caused by the plantar flexed first ray, then it will correct to neutral. If it does not correct to neutral, then there is rigid hindfoot varus.Younger AS, Hansen ST Jr. Adult cavovarus foot. J Am Acad Orthop Surg. 2005 Sep;13(5):302-15. Level of Evidence: 5 - Other.
