Video Description

This is a skeletally immature teenage male who presented to the ED with knee pain after a football game. He states he felt a pop while running after tripping over a teammate. CT shows angulated and displaced avulsion fracture of the tibial tubercle as described above. There is also a nondisplaced obliquely oriented fracture through the posterior aspect of the proximal tibia which extends into the tibial physis. Moderate joint effusion. The patient subsequently underwent an open reduction, internal fixation of the tibial tubercle to restore knee extension.
