• ABSTRACT
    • Loss of motion of the elbow joint has several etiologies, with trauma to the elbow being most common. Restricted elbow motion can lead directly to functional decline and interfere with activities of daily living. Most patients can regain a functional arc of motion with a combination of physical therapy and a splinting regimen. However, some patients will maintain persistent elbow stiffness. Traditionally, open techniques have been used successfully to release the elbow joint capsule and regain a functional arc of motion. Early results of arthroscopic elbow capsule release were concerning for peripheral nerve injury. Technical advances and modifications have allowed arthroscopic capsular release of the elbow to emerge as a safe and reliable, though technically demanding, and method to restore elbow motion.
