A posterior labral tear — also referred to as a reverse Bankart lesion or attenuation of the posterior capsulolabral complex — commonly results from repetitive microtrauma in athletes. The diagnosis can be made clinically with positive posterior labral provocative tests and confirmed with an MRI of the shoulder. Treatment may be nonoperative or operative depending on the chronicity of symptoms, the degree of instability, and the patient's activity demands.
