Basset’s sign is used to evaluate for patellar tendonitis. With the patient supine and the knee in extension, the point of maximal tenderness along the patella is palpated, typically the inferior pole. Repeat the palpation with the knee flexed to 90 degrees. A positive test is resolution of tenderness with the knee flexed to 90 degrees.
