Anterior transfer of the posterior tibial muscle with its tendon is an acknowledged procedure to treat paralysis or weakness of ankle dorsi?exion. Conditions in which this can occur include foot-drop after peroneal nerve injury, poliomyelitis, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, residuals of Guillain-Barr´e syndrome, and leprosy. Transfer of the posterior tibial tendon also can be considered in equinovarus deformity caused by weakened antagonists of the posterior tibial tendon.
