Biography

Simon focuses exclusively on treating patients with complex hip and knee problems. He has a particular interest in hip and pelvis related issues. He performs a high volume of hip replacements, hip arthroscopy, revision hip replacement, hip injections and knee replacements each year. Simon completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Southampton. He was appointed to the prestigious academic post on the North-West London orthopaedic training rotation. During this time he completed a PhD at Imperial College London under the supervision of Professor Justin Cobb. This included novel work on implant coating materials and the development of patient specific guides for surgery. Simon completed a specialist hip fellowship at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital which has an outstanding reputation for joint replacement surgery. He was subsequently appointed to a hip and knee fellowship at the world-renowned Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, where he received specialist training in keyhole hip surgery (arthroscopy) and partial knee replacement surgery, including the industry-leading Oxford Partial Knee Replacement. At the end of this fellowship, he was appointed as a permanent consultant in the unit and now co-leads the fellowship programme, teaching the next generation of hip and knee surgeons. He has received highly specialist training in surgery for hip dysplasia at Guy’s Hospital in London and is lead for the adult peri-acetabular osteotomy service in Oxford. Simon is a firm believer in offering patients evidence-based treatments. He is actively involved in developing the evidence base in hip and knee surgery through leading and participating in research projects. He has produced over 60 papers and conference presentations. He has been awarded prizes for his research work. He is actively involved in hip and knee research projects at the University of Oxford, Imperial College London and Bournemouth University
