Biography

Dr. Gregory Della Rocca grew up in the Albany area of New York, spent time living in Pamplona, Spain, after completing high school, and then attended Cornell University, where he majored in physiology. He received his M.D. and his Ph.D. from Duke in 1999, completing his Ph.D. in biochemistry under the mentorship of 2012 Nobel Prize in chemistry co-laureate Dr. Robert J. Lefkowitz. After graduating, he went on to perform a general surgery internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis. While in St. Louis, he met his wife, Kelly. After spending a year as an orthopaedic trauma fellow at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, he moved to the University of Missouri in 2005 to re-establish the trauma service for the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Della Rocca’s research interests include population-based studies in orthopaedic trauma, care of the geriatric fracture patient (including medical comanagement, osteoporosis, and transitions of care), as well as bone and articular cartilage responses to injury. A faculty member for AOTrauma, teaching many courses to residents and orthopaedic surgeons nationally and internationally each year, he is extremely excited about resident education in orthopaedic trauma.
