Biography

Dr. Cristin John Mathew is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Specialist at All American Orthopedic & Sports Medicine in Houston, Texas. He has attained the distinguished title of Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Dr. Mathew began his medical pursuits at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia. During his time there, Dr. Mathew worked with the Virginia Tech program, providing him with an experience that fostered his passion for sports medicine and hip and knee surgery. After graduation, he completed a residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Northwell Health in New York. While on staff, he trained under several leaders and pioneers within the Orthopedic profession. He excelled on staff, earning the title of chief resident, and worked on numerous projects, resulting in several scholarships and awards. Dr. Mathew subsequently moved to Houston, Texas, and participated in a year of fellowship training in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital. As part of this prestigious fellowship, Dr. Mathew served on the medical staff of the 2017 World Series Champions Houston Astros. In this position, he trained under many exceptional surgeons and used his sports medicine knowledge to help elite athletes improve their performance on the field. In addition to working with athletes in Major League Baseball, Dr. Mathew has also served on staff with Rice University Athletics, the Houston Rockets, and the Houston Texans. He is currently the team physician for the Houston Havoc Ultimate Team and several local rugby clubs, high schools, and national rugby tournaments. Notably, he served as the team physician for the National Collegiate Rugby Centennial Tour in France during the summer of 2024, where the team went undefeated. Dr. Mathew is committed to providing advanced technology and treatments for his patients and his community. He continues to stay active in mentoring young students and physicians through his academic affiliations with the University of Texas Medical Branch and the University of Houston Medical School. He has worked on several publications and continues to give lectures at national meetings. He also serves as a consultant and researcher for several organizations to advance patient care. Dr. Mathew has regionally helped pioneer minimally invasive, muscle-sparing, robotically assisted joint replacements. With personalized surgery, patients typically experience a significantly faster and less painful recovery with a more normal feeling replacement, greatly improving patient satisfaction. He also performs complex joint preservation procedures, transplant surgery, and fracture fixation. Dr. Mathew uses a modern approach to sports medicine, joint reconstruction, and pain management and welcomes any weekend warrior, little leaguer, or an adult seeking improved health and well-being to All American Orthopedic & Sports Medicine.
