Biography

Dr. Andrew Sands is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery, orthopedic trauma, and sports medicine. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his medical degree from New York Medical College. Dr. Sands completed his internship at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Medical Center, residency at Lenox Hill Hospital, and fellowship in lower extremity trauma and reconstruction at the University of Washington/Harborview Medical Center. He served with the U.S. Navy during Operation Desert Shield and Storm. Dr. Sands is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and has served on its board of surgical subspecialties. He is also a member of the American Orthopaedic Association and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, where he has served on the board. Additionally, he is a founding member of the Spinoza Society and has been involved with the AO Foundation, serving as chairman of the foot and ankle expert group and on the trauma technical committee. Dr. Sands has authored peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and edited two textbooks. He has been a visiting professor nationwide and an invited speaker internationally, chairing orthopedic courses in the United States and abroad.
