My name is Jack Nolte and I am a PGY-4 Orthopaedic Surgery Resident at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. I am a former Yell Leader for the K-State Cheer Team, a past president of my fraternity, and a former ambassador for the K-State College of Arts and Sciences. During my undergraduate years I also served as the Director of Risk Management for the Interfraternity Council, which allowed me to work with all 26 fraternities on campus to promote a safe environment. My reason for choosing to enter the medical field is quite simple. Growing up, I was always getting injured or sick, so I spent a lot of time at the doctor’s office. I got to know the local doctors well and began to see the hospital as a prospective place I’d like to work. When I was thirteen, I had a deformity of my left foot corrected, and had many pre and post operation visits. Throughout this time, I spent hours in waiting rooms and I thought a lot. I realized that I might enjoy being a doctor and that I have the skill sets required to do it. As a teenager I began to spend even more hours in the hospital, but this time I was shadowing. I shadowed all of the local doctors and the rotational surgeons, and I decided that the two areas I liked best were Surgery and the Family Practice Clinic. My interests include total joint replacement and the management of periprosthetic fractures.
