Biography

Hamid Hassanzadeh, MD, joined the UVA Spine Center in 2014 after an orthopedic surgery residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital and fellowship training in spine surgery at Rush University Medical Center. His clinical interests and expertise include complex spinal deformity and minimally invasive surgery. An award-winning researcher published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, Hassanzadeh is collaborating with the orthopedic trauma team to study the safety and efficacy of utilizing minimally invasive spine surgery in the trauma setting. He is also actively involved in researching the potential for decreasing complications during large reconstructive spine surgeries by taking appropriate preventive measures and by combining open and minimally invasive techniques. Hassanzadeh is on the publications committee of the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery and he regularly shares his expertise with fellow providers through continuing medical education courses and presentations at national and international conferences. Hassanzadeh is fluent in German and Farsi. In his free time, he enjoys playing guitar and spending time with family.
