Biography

When I was 14 years old, I began volunteering in an emergency room. It was so exciting to watch the nurses and doctors interact with patients as they provided treatment, and I’ve been in love with medicine ever since. After taking anatomy class in medical school, I gained a strong appreciation for the way our bodies move and function. The idea of helping people with musculoskeletal injuries appealed to me, so specializing in orthopedic surgery seemed to be a natural fit. Being an orthopedic surgeon is so rewarding because it allows me to have a positive impact on my patients’ lives. The greatest reward is seeing their quality of life improve after surgery. Many of the people I see at the NYU Langone Orthopedic Center and NYU Langone Ambulatory Care Bay Ridge have hip and knee arthritis or wear and tear of their joint cartilage. I treat adults of all ages who may also develop arthritis for other reasons, such as after a traumatic injury or because of rheumatologic conditions. I provide a personalized approach to patient care that takes people’s individual circumstances into account, and take the time to answer any questions they have to put them at ease. I believe in first exhausting all nonsurgical options, such as anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, bracing, or steroid or stem cell injections, before recommending surgery. Based on their pain and functional limitation, only patients know when surgery is right for them. I also work closely with my patients to correct any modifiable risk factors to ensure they get the best care and can return to an active, healthy lifestyle. I specialize in anterior approach hip replacement, computer-navigated and robotic knee replacements, and outpatient joint replacement surgery. Many of the techniques I use allow patients to recover more quickly and improve their function and strength after surgery. My research in total joint replacement is both clinical and outcomes-based, and focuses on improving quality and value in patient care. I am a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
