Biography

Dr. Nicholas Zarkadis is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon in Tennessee with a surgical practice that focuses on upper and lower extremity sports surgery, trauma surgery, and total joint replacement. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri he completed his education in his home state graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Truman State University while playing NCAA Division II varsity soccer. Additionally, Dr. Zarkadis graduated with Sigma Sigma Phi honors from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences medical school. He was honored to be the sole recipient of the Basic Science Medical Student Research Award for outstanding excellence, research, creativity, departmental leadership, and significant participation in basic science research. Following medical school, Dr. Zarkadis proudly commissioned into the U.S. Military as an Officer and completed his internship and residency at the only combined U.S. Army orthopaedic surgery program, William Beaumont Army Medical Center/Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, Texas. During this time, he served as the Chief Resident coordinating the residency academic curriculum, mentoring fellow residents, and advancing the residency research program. Dr. Zarkadis graduated with distinguished honors and was the sole recipient of the Raymond J. Bagg, M.D. Award for demonstrating excellence in orthopaedic training throughout his residency. Currently, Dr. Zarkadis is stationed at Fort Campbell, where he serves as physician to the 5th Special Forces Group, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, and the 101st Airborne Division. Dr. Zarkadis has been hand-selected twice to be one of a distinct few orthopaedic surgeons participating in U.S. Army orthopaedic medical readiness missions to Honduras. He also deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel where he provided orthopaedic surgical expertise and services to a Forward Resuscitative Surgical Team (FRST) in a resource-stricken environment. Dr. Zarkadis has authored and edited numerous peer-reviewed orthopaedic publications. He has presented his work at numerous national and international orthopaedic conferences. Dr. Zarkadis remains actively involved in several ongoing areas of clinical research and continues to be engaged in graduate medical education. His specialty interests currently include total joint replacement, complex upper & lower extremity sports surgery, and pediatric & adult orthopaedic trauma surgery.
