Biography

Dr. Richard W. McCalden is an Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Western Ontario, London Health Sciences Centre, London, Ontario. He is a native of Toronto, Ontario and received his Medical Degree from the University of Toronto in 1986. His orthopaedic training was also carried out at the University of Toronto and he received his specialty Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery in 1992. He subsequently went on to do two further years of arthroplasty Fellowship, one in Toronto and the second year in Adelaide, Australia. He also holds a Masters Degree from the University of Edinburgh in Mechanical Engineering completed in 1993. Dr. McCalden has been in practice in London since 1994 where his primary clinical focus is adult hip and knee reconstruction. He is the fellowship director for the adult reconstruction unit. Dr. McCalden is a member of multiple orthopaedic associations including the North American Hip Society. He has won many awards including two Charnley Hip Awards from the North American Hip Society, the Insall Award and the Coventry Award from the North American Knee Society and the Carroll Laurin Award from the Canadian Orthopaedic Society. He is the director of the Implant Retrieval Laboratory at the London Health Sciences Centre. Dr. McCalden has over 50 published articles in peer-reviewed journals and has been invited to lecture at numerous local and international meetings.
