Biography

Adam J. Starr, M.D., is the Hansjörg Wyss Distinguished Professor in Orthopaedic Trauma at UT Southwestern Medical Center and serves as Medical Director for Orthopaedic Surgery at Parkland Hospital. He specializes in treating trauma, fractures, and post-traumatic orthopaedic conditions. Dr. Starr earned his medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical School, where he also completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery and a fellowship in orthopaedic trauma. A UT Southwestern faculty member since 1997, he is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Starr has spent much of his career pioneering minimally invasive percutaneous treatments for fractures of the pelvis, especially the acetabulum. He and Charles Reinert, M.D., invented the Starr Frame, a device that helps surgeons align the pieces of a broken pelvis using very small incisions. An internationally invited lecturer, Dr. Starr serves as a reviewer or editor for several orthopaedic journals and has authored his own textbook, as well as more than a dozen textbook chapters. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association.
