Dr. Michael B. Purnell is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, with over 40 years of experience. He established his private practice at OrthoMed Center in Modesto, CA, in 1989. Dr. Purnell is recognized for his expertise in knee and shoulder conditions and has contributed to the design and development of knee and shoulder prostheses, as well as sports medicine devices. He holds a design patent for the Beach Chair Lateral Traction device, used in arthroscopic shoulder surgery. Dr. Purnell has served as a physician for multiple college sports teams and founded Sports Medicine Modesto, a non-profit athletic training program and educational foundation.
