Biography

A "Mid-Westerner", Dr. Henstorf was born and raised in Shenandoah, Iowa. He attended college at The University of Iowa and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Pre-Medicine. He continued his education in Iowa City and earned a second Bachelor of Science degree in Medicine - P.A. from the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Dr. Henstorf subsequently attended the University of Missouri College of Medicine, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1988. Additional honors during his medical school training include election to Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Societies. He received the Dean's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Academic and Clinical Proficiency. He was the first recipient of the prestigious Mid-America Orthopaedic Association's Traveling Residency. He utilized this time to complete a Traveling Fellowship in Total Joint Arthroplasty at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago under the direction of Drs. Jorge Galante and Aaron Rosenberg. Dr. Henstorf practices Orthopedic Surgery, with specialty interests in sports injuries, joint replacement and spinal surgery, including minimally-invasive techniques. As a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, a Member Board of the American Board of Medical Specialties, he has been continuously board-certified in Orthopaedic Surgery since 1990. He has authored several book chapters, numerous scientific papers, and has spoken widely at scientific meetings. Dr. Henstorf has been and remains active in the medical staff leadership of Washington Hospital. Since beginning his practice in 1988, he has served as Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery for two terms, Chairman of Rehabilitative Services for two terms, Chairman of Medical Records, Chairman of the Bylaws Committee for two terms, Chairman of the Credentials Committee for two terms, Chairman of the Medical Executive Committee for two terms, Chairman of the Executive Advisory Committee for two terms, Chairman of the Joint Conference Committee for two terms and Chairman of the Peer Review Oversight Committee. He has been elected and has served as Chief of the Medical Staff of Washington Hospital for two, non-consecutive terms. He is the only member of the Medical Staff to have done so. He is currently the Medical Staff Liaison Officer and also serves as the Chief Medical Information Officer for Washington Hospital. He was the Medical Director of the Washington Spine Center between 2000 and 2003. He is an elected member of the Board of Directors of the California Orthopaedic Association and chaired their Economics Committee for eight years. He was elected as Secretary/Treasurer from 2013 to 2014, 2nd Vice President 2014 to 2015, 1st Vice President 2015 to 2016 and President of the California Orthopedic Association 2016 to 2017. Dr. Henstorf enjoys golfing, snow skiing, and according to family and friends, is an excellent chef.
