A board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Anakwenze is the head of shoulder surgery at Duke. He says that connecting with and caring for patients “is the reason I went into medicine,” and he takes pride in providing operative and non-operative treatments based not only on the latest research and evidence, but also on the unique individual needs and expectations of each patient. Dr. Anakwenze manages all conditions of the shoulder and has performed more than 1000 complex shoulder replacement and rotator cuff repair surgeries. In addition to degenerative diseases, Dr. Anakwenze treats many other conditions of the shoulder, including fractures and instability after dislocations. He has developed and taught techniques that allow for arthroscopic procedures for almost all shoulder instability problems requiring surgery.
