Biography

Dr. Cynthia Kahlenberg is an orthopedic surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery specializing in total hip replacement, total knee replacement, and partial knee replacement for active adults who want to get back to the activities they love. She performs both anterior and posterior hip replacement, utilizing computer navigation and minimally invasive techniques to achieve individualized patient treatment goals while employing the latest surgical techniques, technology, and research to provide the best possible care and outcomes for her patients. Dr. Kahlenberg is among the highest volume surgeons in Connecticut, performing over 600 joint replacements annually. As an undergraduate at Dartmouth College, she was a member of the National Ski Patrol, which sparked her interest in orthopedics. She obtained her MD from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and completed a Master of Public Health degree at Harvard University. Dr. Kahlenberg completed her orthopedic surgical residency at HSS and then completed an additional year of specialized training at HSS focusing on robotic and computer-navigated joint replacement, minimally invasive joint replacement, partial knee replacement, and complex revision surgery of the hip and knee. She served as Chief Fellow during this time. Dr. Kahlenberg is actively engaged in research focused on increasing patient satisfaction with primary total hip and knee replacement and partial knee replacement. As a resident, she was awarded the Lewis Clark Wagner MD Chief Resident Award for Excellence in Orthopedic Clinical/Translational Research. Her research has been presented at orthopedic surgery meetings worldwide. She is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).
