Biography

Dr. Zuhdi E. Abdo is a fellowship-trained Adult Reconstructive surgeon and Assistant Professor for the Department of Orthopaedics at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS). Dr. Abdo graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Rice University in Houston, TX, after which he graduated at the top of his medical school class at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, TX. He completed his residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at Rutgers NJMS, during which he authored several peer-reviewed publications and was awarded the distinguished alumni award. During his fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, he was highlighted as one of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Fellow Members of the Month. He continued to publish several peer-reviewed articles, several society podium presentations, and a notable book chapter during his fellowship training. Upon completion of his fellowship program, the Texas native returned to Rutgers NJMS as full-time faculty. Dr. Abdo is active in the field of Adult Reconstruction/Total Joint Replacement research on both the national and international levels, and he is an active peer reviewer for both the Journal of Arthroplasty and the Journal of Knee Surgery. Dr. Abdo’s research and clinical interests include implant design and innovation, patient-reported outcomes and function after total joint replacement, the “hip-spine” relationship, limb alignment after total knee replacement, understanding BMI and other potential risk factors in total joint replacement, and quality improvement initiatives.
