Biography

Dr. Thomas M. DeBerardino is a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and retired U.S. Army Colonel specializing in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder, and hip. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1985 and earned his M.D. from New York Medical College in 1989. Dr. DeBerardino completed his internship and residency at Tripler Army Medical Center, followed by a two-year sports medicine fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center and Keller Army Community Hospital. He served as Chief of the Sports Medicine Service at Brooke Army Medical Center and later as Director of the West Point Sports Medicine Fellowship and Head Team Physician for Army Athletics. After retiring from the Army in 2009, he served as Associate Professor and Assistant Sports Medicine Fellowship Director at the University of Connecticut Medical Center. In 2016, he returned to San Antonio as Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at UT Health San Antonio. Dr. DeBerardino has authored over 95 peer-reviewed papers and is a frequent speaker at national and international medical symposia.
