Biography

Dr. Purnendu Gupta is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon and Chief of Staff at Shriners Hospitals for Children-Chicago. He specializes in pediatric scoliosis, kyphosis, spondylolisthesis, spinal tumors, traumatic spinal injuries, complex spinal reconstruction, spinal biomechanics, and spinal surgical techniques. Dr. Gupta has held academic positions at Ohio State University, University of Chicago, and currently at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He has conducted extensive research focused on scoliosis, biomechanics, and spinal surgical techniques, and has been internationally published. Dr. Gupta has received numerous honors, including the prestigious Spine Volvo Award in Biomechanics from the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine. He has served on the editorial boards for several journals, including The Spine Journal, Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, Clinical Biomechanics, and the American Journal of Sports Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Gupta has volunteered as a spine surgeon for The Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine in Ghana and the SRS Global Outreach Program.
