Dr. Rachel Silverstein was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. She grew up doing competitive dance and gymnastics and walked onto the swimming and diving team at the University of Connecticut as a springboard diver. She has lived all over the United States for her education and her medical training, and she found her passion for taking care of kids from all different backgrounds. Dr. Silverstein did two fellowships after her orthopedic surgery residency training, one in pediatrics orthopedics and one in sports medicine to better help the patients she cares for. She is excited to be a part of the Nemours orthopedic team helping athletes and kids who need to get back to life after an injury. I wanted to help advocate for children and their health. I think it is super important to keep kids healthy and active in sports and activities to help give them a sense of community and a safe space to be kids. As a pediatric orthopedic surgeon with a focus on sports medicine and trauma, it is always my goal to get them back to the thing they love as safe as possible. I am very passionate about taking care of the whole child, not just their injury or issue. I think it is important to not only address the physical, but also pay attention to things that can influence injuries and trauma, including the social and mental side of life. Kids are not small adults and deserve to have people care and treat them who have an interest in their well-being and future.
