Biography

Dr. Strauss is a sports medicine specialist with a clinical focus on cartilage restoration, meniscus surgery and the arthroscopic treatment of orthopaedic pathology affecting the knee, shoulder, elbow and ankle. After graduating AOA with honors in research from the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, Dr. Strauss performed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the prestigious NYU Hospital For Joint Diseases where he received numerous awards for both basic science and clinical orthopaedic research. He completed his sports medicine fellowship training at the world-renowned Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, under the guidance of Drs. Bach, Cole, Romeo, Bush-Joseph, Verma and Nicholson. As a sports medicine fellow at Rush, Dr. Strauss served as the assistant team physician for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Steel and Nazareth High School, gaining experience treating athletes at all levels of competition. As a clinician-scientist, Dr. Strauss is an active contributor to the orthopaedic surgery literature, publishing more than 50 journal articles and book chapters to help advance the field of sports medicine. His research interests include cartilage repair and restoration, meniscus repair and transplantation, ligament reconstruction techniques and the management of shoulder arthritis in the young, active patient population. Dr. Strauss is a recipient of the esteemed Herodicus Award, is a member of the International Cartilage Repair Society and serves on the editorial boards of The Journal of Knee Surgery and Cartilage. Having grown up in Syosset, New York, Dr. Strauss is excited to return home to practice at the NYU Hospital For Joint Diseases. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, basketball and softball and following both collegiate and professional athletics.
