Biography

Dr. Darwin D. Chen is an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He specializes in joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee, as well as hip preservation. Dr. Chen received his undergraduate degree with honors from Stanford University and earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at The Mount Sinai Hospital, where he served as administrative chief resident and received the Dr. Robert Siffert Award three times for outstanding academic achievements and clinical excellence. Dr. Chen completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction/joint replacement at Rush University Medical Center, training with leaders in the field. He further pursued subspecialty training in hip preservation surgery through a traveling fellowship at top centers in the US and Europe. Dr. Chen performs innovative procedures such as direct anterior hip replacement, partial knee replacement, and robotic-assisted surgery. He is part of the core teaching faculty at Mount Sinai and has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. His clinical research interests include the influence of surgical approach on total hip arthroplasty outcomes and complex primary total hip arthroplasty for hip dysplasia.
