William E. Carlson, MD is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and managing partner of South Florida Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. Dr. Carlson earned his medical degree from St. Louis University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic surgical training at Wayne State University in Detroit. Dr. Carlson has focused his orthopaedic practice on shoulder care treatment, including arthroscopic and shoulder stabilizing procedures. He also performs total shoulder replacement surgery, including new reverse total shoulder replacement. This is a newer option for patients who have a severe rotator cuff tear, in addition to arthritis. Dr. Carlson is one of few orthopaedic surgeons in the area who perform reverse total shoulder replacement surgery on a routine basis. Dr. Carlson has practiced orthopaedic surgery since 1986. He has held several administrative medical staff positions at Martin Health Systems, including a member of the Board of Directors, co-chairman of the Professional Affairs Committee, and president of the Medical Staff. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Carlson is an assistant professor at Flordia State University College of Medicine. He has presented clinical research at national meetings and is published in peer-reviewed medical journals.
