Biography

Dr. Hugh J. Hagan III is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. He earned his B.S. in chemistry with honors from Hampden-Sydney College in 1976 and his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1980. Dr. Hagan completed his internship at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, followed by a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. He further specialized with a fellowship in hand surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Hagan has been practicing in Roanoke, Virginia, since 1987 and joined Carilion Clinic in 2010. He also serves as an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and a clinical assistant professor at the University of Virginia. Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Hagan enjoys outdoor activities, woodworking, and mechanics.
