A 14-year-old male high school football player complains of 3 months of low back pain that began at the onset of his last season. The pain is worse with football-related activity and subsides with rest. He is neurologically intact and has no radiation of the pain down his legs. Symptoms have not improved with activity modifications and 3 months of physical therapy. Radiographs are shown in Figure A. Corresponding MRI studies of the lumbar spine do not show any increased signal on STIR-weighted images in the area of concern. What is the next best step in management?
