Postoperative administration of ethylhydroxydiphosphonate results in delay of mineralization of osteoid, but ultimately HO formation is not decreased. In addition, the delay in mineralization does not improve range of motion of involved hips. Indomethacin has proven to be an effective long-term therapy. To be most effective, radiation therapy must be done in the immediate postoperative period.
