Type I muscle fibers are slow twitch fibers that are found in high proportions in muscles used for posture and balance. These fibers contract slowly but are fatigue resistant. Type IIA are capable of faster contractions than type I and better endurance than type IIB fibers, which are fast twitch fibers.
