Severe valgus deformity is frequently accompanied by hypoplasia of the lateral femoral condyle. Posterior referencing instrumentation can substantially internally rotate the femoral component with respect to the transepicondylar axis and Whiteside’s line. The femoral component malrotation must be corrected to properly address this problem.
