Figure A shows a displaced Schatzker II (lateral split-depression) tibial plateau fracture. These injuries are commonly associated with peripheral meniscal tears. According to the referenced article by Abdel-Hamid et al, the overall incidence of associated soft tissue injuries of the knee in tibial plateau fractures is 71%. The incidence of each injury in their study was: meniscal tears (57% - usually peripheral tears), ACL (25% - more common in more severe fractures), PCL (5%), LCL (3%), MCL (3%), peroneal nerve (1%). No vascular injury was seen in their collection of 98 patients.
