Hip pointers are contusions of the iliac wing. They can be very painful requiring icing, compression, and extended rest until symptoms improve. Some advocate the use of corticosteroid injections. Extra padding can be prescribed after the acute phase has resolved. Iliac apophysis avulsion must be ruled out in the adolescent athlete.
