A 29-year-old male presents to the clinic after sustaining an injury while playing flag football three days prior. On physical exam, he has a palpable defect in his Achilles tendon, approximately 6cm from the calcaneal tuberosity. Compression of his posterior compartment with the knee in flexion while in a prone position does not produce any plantar flexion. He is counseled extensively on operative and non-operative treatment and requests surgical repair. You recommend a percutaneous repair because it offers what difference as compared to an open repair?
