A 32-year-old male was skiing in the Swiss Alps two months ago and sustained an injury to his ankle. He states that he tried to stop quickly and the ankle was rapidly forced into dorsiflexion. Since the injury, he has had tenderness and pain over the posterolateral ankle. On exam, with circumduction of the ankle, you identify peroneal tendon instability. Squeeze and anterior drawer tests are negative. There is no pain at the 5th metatarsal base. Before seeing you in the office he had done six weeks of physical therapy without much improvement in his symptoms. You discuss surgical management with the patient. In order to improve his peroneal instability, which of the structures in Figure A should be repaired?
