A 27-year-old male presents to clinic for evaluation of his right hand. The patient suffered a traumatic laceration of his ulnar nerve at the level of the wrist several months ago. The patient works as a mechanic and is having difficulty with work secondary to functional deficits of the hand. On exam, there is clawing present. The patient is unable to actively extend the affected digits at the proximal interphalangeal joint (PIPJ). While asking the patient to extend the digits, you perform the maneuver demonstrated in Figure A and the patient is still unable to actively extend at the PIPJs. However, you are able to fully passively extend the PIPJs while holding the patient’s hand/wrist in the same position. Which of the following would most likely benefit this patient?
