A previously independent 82-year-old female falls down 3 stairs and has immediate, acute shoulder pain. She is unable to lift the shoulder without significant pain. Radiographs are taken and show no fracture. She has gotten no pain relief and has minimal use of the shoulder despite a cortisone injection 4 months ago and home therapy.
