Biography

Dr. Marcu has been treating bone and joint patients of Madison and southern Wisconsin since 2006. He was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated cum laude from Georgetown University in Washington, DC in 2002. After college, he moved to Chicago to attend Northwestern University's School of Medicine, from where he graduated with honors. He then traveled to Madison, WI with his family to do his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics, during which time he also worked with Orthopedic Associates of Sauk Prairie. He then joined the Orthopedic Associates team as a full member in August of 2011. ?Orthopedic Associates of Sauk Prairie is part of ?Sauk Prairie Healthcare and Sauk Prairie Hospital?.? He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Marcu's goal is to help patients get back to living lives that are active and full while treating each person with respect. He has an interest in joint replacements, sports medicine, and arthroscopic surgery. Some of the more common procedures offered include hip replacement (both anterior hip replacement and posterior hip replacement), knee replacement, personalized knee replacement, shoulder replacement, reverse shoulder replacement, knee arthroscopy, meniscus repair, ACL reconstruction, shoulder arthroscopy, rotator cuff repair, shoulder stabilization, labrum repair, and carpal tunnel release. He does not perform any spine surgery and is not a back pain specialist. Recognizing that surgery, no matter how "small", is a major event in people's lives, he will try to help people achieve success without surgery when possible. Dr. Marcu will then work closely with physical therapists, occupational therapists, athletic trainers, and caregivers to provide the best surgical care or non-operative care possible. One of the major reasons Dr. Marcu enjoys orthopedics is the dramatic improvement that surgery can achieve for people. When surgery is chosen, his goal is to provide high-quality modern care before, during, and after the procedure. Dr. Marcu is the author of three book chapters on orthopedic issues. His work has also been published in The American Journal of Orthopedics, The Spine Journal, and The Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics. He has presented research at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and his work has also been presented at the annual meetings of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the Japanese Orthopedic Association. While in residency, Dr. Marcu was recognized as "Outstanding Resident in Orthopedic Surgery", "Resident Educator of the Year", and was also awarded the "Resident Research Award". He is a Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is an Associate Member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a member of the Wisconsin Medical Society and Wisconsin Orthopedic Society.
