Our Core Beliefs

  1. Orthopaedic education and standardized test preparation can be made more efficient. This optimizes residents’ and fellows’ time, allowing them to engage in other valuable activities like research and social service.
  2. Residents and fellows represent a source of untapped value. With proper incentives they can generate value by producing high-quality orthopaedic review content.
  3. The opportunity cost and debt burden of orthopaedic training is high. It often limits where and how young physicians practice upon completion their training. This often affects their quality of life, which ultimately leads to a less satisfied physician and compromised patient care.
Our Mission
  1. Improve the efficiency of orthopaedic education by creating an innovative online learning resource focused on Orthopaedic Review & Test Preparation.
  2. Unlock “hidden” value from orthopaedic fellows by providing a methodology that incentivizes them, financially and educationally, to generate high-quality orthopaedic review content.
  3. Reduce the average debt burden of orthopaedic fellows by compensating them for their publishing contributions.

What makes OrthoBullets Unique
  1. We have identified a Unique Market Opportunity
    • A market opportunity exists for Online Orthopaedic Review & Test Preparation. While excellent resources exist in print and in review courses, no effective players exist online.
  2. We have developed an Innovative Learning Tool.
    • Our learning technique, called VEQTR (Visually-Enhanced-Question Topic-Repetition) combines proven memorization techniques with the power of the internet to create more efficient learning and test taking skills. It has been proven to be popular during a pre-OITE trial where it saw 580% growth (679 to 4728 users over three months). The beta-version of OrthoBullets.com currently gets more than 4,000 physician users/month in an incomplete and non-marketed state.
  3. We have developed an Innovative Open-source Platform Technology.
    • Our regulated open-source platform technology is designed so users can efficiently create high-quality review content in the VEQTR format. It has been designed to make the process of updating content an interesting and educational experience.
  4. We have developed a Unique and Sustainable Content Model.
    • We have developed an incentive model that motivates fellows, who we believe are strategically positioned to create high-quality content on an ongoing annual basis. Each year ten fellows are selected and awarded educational grants to update and create content for the ten different specialties. We believe fellows are strategically positioned because
      • they just took ABOS Step 1 and their orthopaedic review knowledge and test taking skills are at a career high.
      • they have to master the specialty material anyhow.
      • they are surrounded by thought-leaders in their specialty.
      • they need the money and are sensitive to financial incentive.
  5. We have a Viable Business Model
    • We have developed a method that allows medical device companies to support orthopaedic education through educational grants. In return, device companies have an opportunity to build relationships with young surgeons built on academic substance and an entrepreneurial partnership. This method of supporting orthopaedic education is compliant with the Department of Justice (DOJ), AdvaMed Legislation, and the ACGME.

Our Success Depends on the Preservation of High-quality, High-yield content.
  • This is a test preparation site. Only material "testable" on the OITE and ABOS Part I is included in this site. If the material is not "testable", it does not belong on OrthoBullets.com.
  • We accomplish this by aggregating the content from trusted study resources and integrating them into a innovative format. This makes your job easy and well defined. Our references ONLY include:

  • If this site fails, it will be because the quality of the content deteriorates with time.
    • You will hear it over and over again – “resist the urge to splurge”. Do not add your own personal commentary just because you heard something interesting during a case. It is very tempting to do, but you must resist this temptation.
  • There are strict rules on how you update content, both in term of our references and out format. If you want to participate in this project, you must follow the OrthoBullets way. Please complete the user tutorial before you can contribute content. See user tutorial.
