Biography
M. Kareem Shaath, MD, is an orthopedic traumatologist with the Orlando Health Orthopedic Institute’s Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Group. Dr. Shaath has advanced training in caring for severely injured patients with complex fractures and dislocations. He treats injuries to the upper and lower extremities as well as the pelvis and acetabulum. He also treats patients with complex orthopedic conditions such as infected or non-healing fractures, post-traumatic deformities, and sacroiliac arthritis. He earned his bachelor’s degree in microbiology and Arabic language from the University of Kansas. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City. Dr. Shaath then completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Rutgers University – New Jersey Medical School, where he served as administrative chief resident. His residency was followed by a fellowship in orthopedic trauma at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, the busiest trauma center in the United States and one of the busiest trauma centers in the world. He was then the recipient of the prestigious John Border Memorial Fellowship, which allowed him to further his training at the University of Nottingham Queen’s Medical Centre which is the busiest trauma center in the United Kingdom, and one of the busiest trauma centers in Europe. Dr. Shaath has published extensively and is a frequent presenter at national and international medical conferences. He is fluent in both English and Arabic.
