Biography

I live by the principle my mother taught me when I was a child: "Whatever you do, be the best at it." I have worked hard to obtain the education, knowledge, and surgical skills to be the best orthopedic surgeon I can be and to provide the best possible care to my patients. I grew up in the Los Angeles area and attended local schools in order to stay close to my family. I have always had an interest in medicine as far back as I can remember. I love the field of orthopedic surgery because it allows me to work with my hands and help people. I graduated from medical school with Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors and received numerous awards for research, clinical practice, and teaching during and after my residency. I am a member of several national medical societies, including American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, and American Orthopaedic Association. I am a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a sub-specialty certification in sports medicine. I specialize mainly in athletic injuries of the shoulder, elbow, and knee. I believe in a biologic solution to joint problems in order to delay, as long as possible, the need for traditional resurfacing (joint replacement surgery. My specialty work includes arthroscopic surgery, simple and complex ligament reconstructions of the knee, cartilage restoration surgery, realignment surgery around the knee, and shoulder replacement surgery. I have a very special interest in the elbow. My work on the elbow includes ligament reconstruction (Tommy John surgery), arthroscopy and contracture releases, fractures and complex instability (dislocations), and replacement surgery (arthroplasty). I thrive by providing the most advanced care I can to my patients. I attend, as well as teach at, numerous meetings throughout the year. I have published over 20 peer-reviewed works and three textbooks. I am also a clinical professor of orthopedic surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and am involved in the education of orthopedic residents from USC. All of these endeavors have provided me the opportunity to be at the front of the field of orthopedic sports medicine. I thrive on seeing excellent results in my patients, with or without surgery.
