Biography

Dr. Buerba is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgeon at Banner Health. He specializes in sports surgery, shoulder arthroscopic/reconstructive surgery, knee arthroscopy, and fracture management. He practices in Downtown Phoenix and Scottsdale. Dr. Buerba is a native of Phoenix, AZ and he returned to phoenix after completing his Sports Surgery Fellowship at the prestigious University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. While there, he had excellent surgical training as well as a superb team coverage experience. He worked as a team physician for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the athletic teams of the University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, and Robert Morris University. He currently serves as the team physician for several high schools and also serves as an assistant team physician for the Milwaukee Brewers during spring training. His surgical interests include: Sports Medicine (arthroscopy knee, shoulder), cartilage restoration, general orthopaedics, shoulder arthroplasty (anatomic and reverse), trauma Dr. Buerba is a well published author in Orthopaedics and has 30+ peer reviewed manuscripts and textbook chapters and 50+ academic presentations at the national level. His research interests include: Sports Medicine, Surgical Outcomes, Soccer Medicine, Disparities in Healthcare, Conflicts of Interest, Surgical Techniques, Surgical Education In addition to his sports surgery training, he completed a 5-year Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at UCLA. While in medical school, he also obtained a Masters in Health Science (MHS) degree in addition to his MD at the Yale University School of Medicine in 2014. He studied Biological Anthropology at Harvard University (cum laude, 2008) and played D1 soccer in college x 2 years and co-founded the Harvard Club Soccer Team. Dr. Buerba is also 100% bilingual in Spanish and English.
