Biography

Michael T. Freehill is a Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgeon in the Stanford University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, a team physician for Stanford Athletics, and an Associate for Major League Baseball Team Physician Association. Dr. Freehill graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of San Diego with his Bachelor’s in chemistry, where he also played college baseball. After graduation, he was drafted as a pitcher by the California Angels, and was on the Major League 40- Man Roster for two years, before undergoing thermal capsulorrhaphy shoulder surgery. He later signed with the Texas Rangers, and again reached Triple-A. Following his professional baseball career, Dr. Freehill pursued his medical doctorate with Tulane University School of Medicine. During his residency at Johns Hopkins University, he was honored with the Orthopaedic Residency Research Award. He then went on to pursue Fellowships in Sports Medicine from Stanford University, as well as Shoulder and Elbow Surgery from Harvard University Shoulder Service. He spent 4 ½ years at Wake Forest University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, where he was named Director of Sports Medicine and head team physician, before joining the University of Michigan as an Associate Professor, and now is back at Stanford University.
