Biography

Dr. Ian King Yeung Lo is the Chief of Shoulder & Elbow Surgery and Assistant Professorin the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Surgery, at the University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Recently, he was the only Canadian to be named one of the top 20 shoulder surgeons in North America by Orthopaedics This Week. Dr. Lo’s specialty is the arthroscopic treatment of shoulder conditions, including shoulder instability and rotator cuff tears, and he is considered to be a pioneer of several arthroscopic shoulder procedures. In addition, he holds numerous patents for innovative products designed to improve shoulder surgery. A 2-time winner of the Neer Award, Dr. Lo lectures internationally and has presented and published hundreds of papers. He is a co-author of A Cowboy’s Guide to Advanced Shoulder Arthroscopy, which is regarded as a classic text. In addition, he serves as a shoulder consultant to the National Hockey League Players’ Association. Dr. Lo received his medical degree from and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, University of Western Ontario, in London, Ontario, Canada. After 2 years of studying soft tissue healing as a clinician-scientist with the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research, Dr. Lo received additional training in the treatment of shoulder conditions with Stephen Burkhart, MD, in San Antonio, Texas, and Evan Flatow, MD, in, New York, New York.
