Femoral Shaft Fracture in 7M

HPI

A 7-year-old male presents with right thigh pain and refusal to bear weight after a fall from a trampoline onto a planted foot. His parents are concerned with "floppiness" of the right thigh. Patient is consolable.

PMH

None, otherwise healthy with no prior fractures Lives with biologic parents

PE

Physical examination reveals a well-developed young male that has met all age-appropriate developmental milestones. His weight is 25 kg. Focused physical examination of the right lower extremity reveals gross deformity, swelling, and palpable crepitus about mid-thigh. There is no tenderness to palpation about the knee or hip. He is able to dorsi/plantarflex ankle but refuses to move knee/hip. He is neurovascularly intact with a strong symmetric DP pulse.
